چکیده
Mining and processing of minerals produce large quantities tailings as waste. Some countries, including Norway, allow disposal mine in the sea. In this study we investigated impacts from a calcium carbonate (CaCO3) plant on early live stages haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua). Fish eggs (3 days post fertilisation; dpf) were exposed for 48 h to three concentrations tailings, nominally 1 mg L?1 (low, L); 10 (medium, M) 100 (high, H); with L M representing occurring at tailing release points. Results show that rapidly adhered both species, causing negative buoyancy (sinking eggs) H exposures. While remained egg surfaces species also after exposure termination, adhesion seemed more pronounced cod, leading larger even exposure. Tailing further induced hatching significantly reduced survival embryos fish group. Moreover, caused malformations larvae, potentially related premature hatching. This shows mineral particles adhere eggs, affecting buoyancy, development.

Effects of seismic shooting on local abundance and catch rates of cod (Gadus morhua) and haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus)
To determine whether seismic exploration affected abundance or catch rates of cod (Gadus morhua) and haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus), acoustic mapping and fishing trials with trawls and longlines were conducted in the central Barents Sea 7 days before, 5 days during, and 5 days after seismic shooting with air guns. Seismic shooting severely affected fish distribution, local abundance, and ca...
متن کاملA trans-Atlantic examination of haddock Melanogrammus aeglefinus food habits.
The food habits of Melanogrammus aeglefinus were explored and contrasted across multiple north-eastern and north-western Atlantic Ocean ecosystems, using databases that span multiple decades. The results show that among all ecosystems, echinoderms are a consistent part of M. aeglefinus diet, but patterns emerge regarding where and when M. aeglefinus primarily eat fishes v. echinoderms. Melanogr...

Muscle development and growth were investigated in haddock larvae (Melanogrammus aeglefinus L.) incubated under controlled temperatures (4, 6, 8 degrees C) and reared post-hatch through yolk-dependent and exogenous-feeding stages in a 6 degrees C post-hatch environment. Changes in cell number and size in superficial and deep myotomes within the epaxial muscle were investigated for 28 days follo...
متن کاملHormonal effects of C4-C7 alkylphenols on cod (Gadus morhua)
Foreword There is a great need for more knowledge of the effects on the marine environment of discharges to the sea from the offshore oil and gas industry. The long-term effects in particular are of great interest, as we know very little about them. More knowledge is thus essential if the authorities are to be able to control the development of this sector and to coordinate the exploitation of ...

Embryo survival, larval standard length, yolk-sac area, yolk utilization and resistance to starvation were significantly influenced by the female parent and the interaction between both parents of Baltic Sea cod Gadus morhua in a gamete factorial cross of 3 females and 5 males in all possible combinations. The proportion of variance in embryonic survivorship that was due to maternity during inc...
